Ikeja Championship

Lagos – Alaba Adetunji has said that the encouragement from the Nigeria Police was the inspiration behind her fine form in recent times as she won the 2017 Ikeja Ladies Club Championship on Thursday.

According to her, “I am overwhelmed by the support accorded me by all here; the caddies, my fellow players and most especially my office – The Nigeria Police – who encouraged me with more practice time.”

However, to achieve the feat Adetunji outshone over 80 other competitors for the title where she returned 164 gross score over 36 holes piping the nearest contender, Chinyere Alamu, with nine shots.

The win is her third after winning the event in 2013 and 2014, while Alamu gracious in defeat said Adetunji “deserved the honour”. Pamela Wu placed third.

Chairperson of the ladies section of the club, Mrs Oby Jolayemi, said that the event was a reward for the outstanding effort that the lady golfers have put into the season.

“We have a very impressive lady’s section and a lot of players are also showing huge interest in the game. This event is traditional Major here and we are pleased with the turnout of players from here and other golf clubs,” she said.

Jolayemi also appreciated the support from the men’s section led by Captain Niyi Latinwo as well as others who supported our Championship – Princess Yew Anderson Onileere; Johnson Ndukwu and Muyiwa Kupoluyi.”

Other winners at the event included Linda Obieze, who beat Nkoli Moka with six shots to win the nett price at the event with 150 nett leaving Soukuna Fatumata to the third place.
